Thrivent Builds 2010New Habitat Greenville homes are springing up in a brand new Habitat subdivision in Taylors called Abigail Springs.  The subdivision is comprised of 32 developed building lots off Edwards Street on 2 streets ending in cul de sacs.

Abigail Springs will be developed a bit differently than previous Habitat developments, with plans to become a mixed income neighborhood.  Historically, Habitat communities were developed to serve families whose incomes are 30-60% of the Area Median Income (AMI).  Plans are for Abigail Springs to include families whose income is 60 to 120% of the AMI.  Habitat Greenville is currently collaborating with another affordable housing agency to build on some lots, and to offer opportunities to some commercial builders.  The ideal result will be a mixed income development.

Monroe Free, President of HFHGC, frequently says, “We believe the mixed income development makes a healthier neighborhood, healthier neighborhoods make healthier families, and healthier families make healthier individuals.”

The names of the 2 new streets are Abba Way and Kara Court.  Thrivent Builds and Michelin North America, Inc. are partnering with Habitat Greenville to build the first 2 homes in this neighborhood, both on Abba Way, with completion dates in October and December, 2010.

"Habitat has opened up unprecedented opportunities for me to cross the chasm that separates those of us who are free, safe, well fed and housed, financially secure and influential enough to shape our own destiny from our neighbors who enjoy few, if any, of these advantages"
