On Sunday, August 6, 2017, we were blessed to have a beautiful afternoon to dedicate the Neriz family's home.
Yadira Neriz and her daughter Aliyah, learned about Habitat for Humanity from relatives. “The Habitat program is a wonderful opportunity. I know that on my own, I wouldn’t be able to obtain a mortgage to purchase my own home. I’m so excited that I’ll be making an investment in a home instead of paying rent that constantly increases!”
As a partner family, Yadira has completed 20 hours of homeownership education classes. “The most helpful class was the eight-hour class about mortgages. I didn’t know anything about home buying, so it gave me a lot of practical knowledge that I really needed.” She has also performed 200 hours of “sweat equity,” building her home and the homes of other Habitat homeowners, alongside volunteers from the Greer Community Partners and other organizations.
Yadira is most anticipating having a safe home, a yard in which her daughter can play, and “just enjoying our new home.” She looks forward to having her family over and decorating her daughter’s room. Yadira is most grateful to all the the Greer Community Partners and the volunteers who helped build her home and providing the opportunity of homeownership. “Without this help, I couldn’t own a home; I am so thankful!”
A huge thank you to the Greer Community Partners for their support, including Greer First Presbyterian Church, John I. Smith Charities, Citizens Building and Loan, Donna O. Smith and Partners and Keith Smith Builders, LLC.
