Homegrown Solutions. International Impact.
Did you know Habitat affiliates also build throughout the United States and around the world? Through the Global Village program, supported by Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI), local affiliates and individuals can tithe and travel to global affiliates to support the vision of a world where everyone has a decent place to live.
1 in 4 people around the world need decent housing — and it is estimated, more than 10 million people worldwide die each year from conditions related to substandard housing. In fiscal year 2018, Habitat improved the housing conditions of 8.68 million people worldwide. Habitat serves international communities through new construction, critical home repair, community development, disaster response, water sanitation, and other projects to make communities healthier and stronger. And you can be a part of it!
Habitat Greenville has led 3 Global Village trips to work with affiliates in Guatemala. Our teams have worked with 13 families, assisting in the construction of 3 homes and 10 smokeless stoves. Our teams enjoy getting to know the local people, other volunteers, staff, and friends of Habitat Greenville while experiencing the local culture and learning about the Habitat program abroad.
An Eye-Opening and Life-Changing Experience
When asked why they chose to participate, the 2019 team’s collective response was, “Because I can! I have resources, time, and skills and I am called to share those with others.” If you have resources and time, we can teach you the skills!
On the 2019 trip to Guatemala, board member, Glenda Morrison-Fair said, “I am so glad I came. There is no way I could have understood this need by reading about it in a book or seeing it on TV.”
On top of our trips to Guatemala, Habitat Greenville has contributed finances to provide nearly 100 housing solutions around the world since 1987!
Stay tuned for updates coming in 2024!
